Jesse James has issued a long statement responding to the news that the famous wife he so publicly wronged, Sandra Bullock, has filed for divorce. I’m struck by how long and arrogant the statement is. It starts out by saying that it was a hard decision to “let” Sandra file for divorce, as if he had the final say and is doing her this huge favor by allowing her to go through with it. He does say that he loves their newly-adopted son Louis, though, and it was hard to again “let” Sandra move forward alone with the adoption. The guy is still holding out hope that he can somehow win Sandra back, and of course tries to pull the “I’ve changed” crap. Why do cheating men always do this? James’ statement ends with asking us not to blame Sandra, as if anyone has ever done this apart from him. You know he’s got to have some twisted justification for all the crap he’s pulled.
As Sandra Bullock shares her decision to file for divorce from husband Jesse James and adopt son Louis as a single mom, James tells PEOPLE he has a “huge hole” in his heart, but understands:
“My whole life has been full of hard decisions.
“The decision to let my wife end our marriage, and continue the adoption of Louis on her own, has been the hardest. The love I have for Louis cannot be put to words. Not having him around to love and to hold has left a huge hole in my heart.
“Sandy is the love of my life, but considering the pain and devastation I have caused her, it would be selfish to not let her go. Right now it is time for me to beat this addiction that has taken two of the things I love the most in life.
“I have always taken great pride in proving people wrong. That time has come once again to show that I am not what everyone says I am. I know in my heart that I can be the best father possible to my four children, and the mate Sandy deserves, and realize that this is an incredible mountain to climb. But I believe that the steps I have taken in the last 30 days are the foundation for making this happen. The lifelong commitment I am making is what being a real husband and father is all about.
“I ask that you please do not judge Sandy for the things I have done. She has done no wrong. She played no part in any of this. She has been an amazing wife, mother, and best friend, for the over 6 years we have been together.”

In terms of some of the asinine, self-pitying things Jesse’s spokesperson has said to the press in the past, his latest statement isn’t that bad. He’s changed, he wants Sandra back, he regrets his behavior, etc. This is a story as old as time – Man cheats, man gets caught, man claims he’s changed and wants his life and wife back. If only these fools would have realized what they were gambling by cheating in the first place. Once the wife finds out, it’s often too late.
Compare Jesse’s sappy “poor me” statement to the advance, very classy quotes from Sandra in this upcoming issue of People. She said “I really don’t know how our paths will intersect in the future, but the father I have known Jesse to be … is one that I hope Louis can experience one day, no matter how Jesse and I go on with our lives.” [via Lainey Gossip]
TMZ also has more quotes from Bullock’s People interview, and she responded very strongly to the news about James’ Nazi photo. “The photo shocked me and made me sad. This is not the man I married. This was stupid, this was ignorant. Racism, anti-Semitism, sexism, homophobia, anything Nazi and a boatload of other things have no place in my life… And the man I married felt the same.” I love that she said this so unequivocally and that she explained that the Jesse she knew wasn’t the racist assh*le that he’s been described as. I believe her, and I’ve written about this before. The guy hid his blatant infidelity from her for years and maybe his racism was a side he rarely showed.
Here’s James outside his cafe, Cisco Burger, in Long Beach on 4/27. Radar Online reports that the diner’s business is way down ever since the scandal broke.
